If you are a man in need of some gym inspiration, look no further than actor Ryan Phillippe. Recently, the forty-three year old entertainer posted a picture of himself on Instagram that has many people talking.

Captioning the photo, “Movin snowflakes by the O-Z,” the Shooter star showed fans his incredibly buff body against the backdrop of wind and snow.

The decidedly lumbersexual photo suggests that he’s healed from a “freak accident” that occurred earlier this summer. At the time, the star ended up breaking his leg in a UTV accident.

But that’s not really the important news here.

The real story is that Phillipe, who has struggled with depression for most of his life, offers guys a blueprint for mental and physical wellness.

According to an interview he gave to People, he’s always been focused on his workout program. Here’s what he’s said on this topic:

“I get a lot of balance and meditative peace out of being physical and exercise.”

And what about depression? Here’s what he shared with US Magazine not too long ago.

“I believe that depression and mood disorders are on a spectrum akin to the way autism is, where it’s an individual experience.

I think people fear being stigmatized or treated in a blanket fashion, which is sometimes the response to someone who says, ‘I struggle with depression.’

But really, depression could manifest in a thousand different ways depending on who it is. I don’t think there’s any reason not to talk about it.

We can help each other cope and give tools that we learn along the way.”

If you who believe you are too old to get fit or too depressed to do anything about it, Phillippe’s focus on wellness should inspire you to think differently.

Back to that People interview.

“If we work on taking care of ourselves in our 20s, 30s, and 40s, and you’re consistent about that, it just makes the aging process a lot less brutal,” he says.

“It’s the absolute truth. I don’t care your body type or male or female. If you are moving and exercising and taking care of yourself, aging just won’t be as dramatic and it won’t be as unpleasant. We’re all going to have to go through it.”
