Who’s Behind the Mic 🎙️
Dr. John D. Moore is a licensed mental health counselor, counselor educator, and board-certified clinical hypnotherapist based in Chicago. He’s spent his career in counseling, coaching, teaching, and applied psychology — and he built Guy Counseling to bring that background to men in a format that doesn’t feel clinical or preachy.
His work and commentary have appeared in or been cited by Men’s Health, Cosmo, The Wall Street Journal, WebMD, NPR, and other national outlets. But most people find him through their earbuds — hosting a weekly show that treats men’s mental health like a normal conversation, not a taboo one.
Training and Licensure 👔
Dr. Moore holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the School of Behavioral Science at Northcentral University, a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health from the University of the Cumberlands, and an MBA in Healthcare Management from the Indiana Institute of Technology.
He is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Board-Certified Drug & Alcohol Counselor, and National Board Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, with additional training in EMDR and cognitive therapy approaches through the Beck Institute. He is a full member of the Association for Behavioral & Cognitive Therapies. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in psychology and business at the university level.

The Men’s Self-Help Podcast 🎙️
Every episode, John takes one idea — sometimes a mindset shift, sometimes a straight-up thought experiment — and works through it the way he’d talk you through it in his office. No script-reading, no jargon dump. Just direct, sometimes irreverent, always practical conversation about the stuff men usually keep to themselves.
Expect real psychology, real frameworks, and a fair amount of Chicago in the delivery. New episodes drop regularly, plus a mailbag segment where John answers listener questions directly.
