Review of Aqua Velva Aftershave
Do you wear aftershave? Have you ever seen a bottle of Aqua Velva at your local drugstore? Curious if this brand is any good? If the answer is yes, you’ve come to the right place.
Given heavy interest in men’s colognes and aftershaves on this blog, I thought I’d try Aqua Velva for a week and offer my impressions.
Now before diving too far in, I want to share with you that I am not being paid by the folks at Combe for writing this up. In addition, I’m also not receiving any compensation through an affiliate program. Nope, what you see is simply based on my experience.
So, let’s get right to it. Is Aqua Velva Aftershave worth the money? All I can tell you is that after using the product for exactly one week, I’ve been very pleased.
In my case, I bought a 3.5 fluid ounce shatterproof bottle (“Classic Blue”) at my local pharmacy for approximately $5.00. The reason I decided to buy it was simple – I wanted to see if a cheap version of aftershave did as good of a job as some of the pricier, name brands.
Typically, I go for aftershaves that are balm-based and free of alcohol because they are easier on my skin. That said, everyone is different, so I encourage you to get to know your mug and so you can make the best decision for your needs. See this post on choosing an aftershave to learn more.
Here are my observations on Aqua Velva:
- Reasonably priced
- Masculine scent (menthol, woody, cedar).
- Goes on fresh
- The smell is not over-powering
- Does slightly burn your skin, right after shaving, for around 30 seconds.
- The scent lasts maybe 3-4 hours (at best)
- Easy to store in the medicine cabinet
During the 7-day period I splashed on the blue liquid, I really didn’t encounter many problems. Granted, I don’t shave every day but still used this brand as part of the test.
I was pleasantly surprised when several friends asked me about the cologne I was wearing. One person who really liked the scent was shocked when I told her it was Aqua Velva. “Are you serious? I would never have guessed. Smells great!” she said.
A buddy of mine, however, knew the brand right away. “Hey, you smell like my dad. Is that Aqua Velva?” he asked. I’m the first to admit that it was funny to be compared to someone’s pops.
At a national retail price of around $5.00, I’d be hard pressed to tell you this product is a rip-off. I recognize there are other reviews online that aren’t all that glowing, with some guys saying this aftershave smells terrible and others suggesting it’s from yesteryear.
All I can say is that I liked using it. It didn’t irritate my face or cause any breakouts. Granted, I did use a small amount and was sure to use men’s face moisturizer after application.
So, there you have it. My review of Aqua Velva. Have you used this product before? If so, what were your impressions?
