Men come to counseling for different reasons. Sometimes it is anxiety or stress. Sometimes it is a relationship problem, career pressure, low confidence, grief, anger, burnout, or the quiet sense that life is not working the way it should.
Over the years, I have worked with men from many walks of life — straight, gay, bisexual, questioning, partnered, single, divorced, younger, older, established, and still figuring things out. The details may differ, but the need is often similar: a confidential place to talk plainly, think clearly, and begin making practical changes.
My approach is direct, warm, solution-focused, and grounded in real life. The goal is not to turn you into someone else. The goal is to help you understand what is happening, identify what needs to change, and build a workable path forward.
➡️ Prefer Virtual Sessions?
For many men, online counseling can make it easier to get support without adding another commute to the day. Guy Counseling offers secure virtual counseling for clients located in Illinois, along with online coaching options when appropriate.
Who This Is For
Men Often Reach Out When They Need
1
A confidential place to talk without having to perform, explain everything perfectly, or pretend they are fine.
2
Practical coping tools for stress, anxiety, negative thinking, pressure, and emotional overload.
3
Support with relationships, dating, breakups, family pressure, communication, and the patterns that keep repeating.
4
A clearer path through life transitions, career questions, confidence issues, motivation, and personal growth.
You do not have to keep carrying everything by yourself.
How Counseling Works Here
A Practical, Men-Focused Approach to Change
My work is interactive and goal-focused. Depending on your situation, I may use elements of CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based strategies, guided imagery, and practical coaching tools.
The work often includes identifying negative self-talk, understanding emotional triggers, practicing new coping skills, improving communication, and creating a realistic plan for what happens outside the session.
When clinically appropriate, EMDR therapy for men may also be considered for painful memories, negative beliefs, or emotional roadblocks that keep showing up in the present.

Counseling can be a bridge between where you are and where you want to be.

“The idea that men should just ‘man up’ and handle everything alone is not strength. It is a setup for silence, isolation, and burnout.”
One of the strongest things you can do is reach out when you know something needs to change. Counseling gives you a structured place to look at what is working, what is not, and what needs to happen next.
Counseling, Coaching and Fit
Clinical counseling services are available to clients who live in Illinois. Coaching is different from counseling and is not billed to insurance. You can learn more about fees, insurance, and service differences on the fees page.
Because needs and availability vary, the best next step is to reach out and briefly describe what kind of support you are looking for. If I am not the right fit or my schedule is full, I am happy to provide quality referrals when appropriate.
