How Long Should I Wash My Face?

Are You Washing It Long Enough?

Do you bypass face washing in favor of other skin care steps? If the answer is yes, you aren’t alone. In my experience, guys are most interested in keeping wrinkles at bay, which causes a lot of them to zone in on moisturizing. That’s not a bad thing, but men’s face care requires a more comprehensive approach.

And think about it for a moment. In order for those moisturizers to penetrate, don’t you need to start off with a clean canvas? Plus, if you aren’t washing your face frequently enough, you run the risk of letting your pores clog, which can create blackheads. Make sense?

And so that is what this short post is all about: Making sure you have information on the basics of face washing, with the goal of helping your skin look as young and vibrant as possible.

Recently, I watched a YouTube video featuring Dr. Lawrence Samuels, a Board-Certified Dermatologist. He took a deep dive into various approaches to facial cleansing and discussed common skin care mistakes.

According to Samuels, most people benefit from washing their face two times a day – once in the morning and once at night. He doesn’t suggest doing it more because it can aggravate the skin.

He does offer one exception. “If you are involved in activities that cause you to sweat a lot, such as working out or playing sports, it is very important to wash your face as soon as possible after your activity to remove the oil, debris, and bacteria,” says Samuels.

How Long Should I face Wash?

So – what about the length of time you should spend washing your face? Well, according to most of the information I’ve gathered from experts, the answer is [around] 30-seconds or about as much time as it might take to sing happy birthday to yourself twice.

That’s fairly simple, don’t you think?
